LPN

I had nursing orientation for the upcoming year a few days ago. It was so pointless and could have easily been summarized in a quick email, instead of four hours of my life. Kaitlyn, Emily, Janelle, and I ended up dipping out two hours early and went to brunch. They kept going on and on about the importance of making connections with our peers so we did that over food and coffee. I think we got the point of the orientation! I still can't believe I could possibly be an RN in May. That is if I don't have a mental breakdown or something along those lines. I'm not ready for the school year, but it does feel good knowing that I'm almost done!

In other news, I took my nclex-pn and somehow passed! So I'm officially a licensed practical nurse(LPN) in the state of Wisconsin. I'm still working towards my RN, but decided to take the nclex-pn for practice. It's weird to think that I don't have to say that I'm "almost" a nurse and can instead say that I am a nurse!

I'm the nurse that skips out on orientation for egg wraps.

Vintage Swap Meet

I was a little nervous about how Saturday night would go.
Kaitlyn invited me downtown to drink with a couple of friends.
I ended up inviting Brennan who brought two of his roommates.
At first it was just three sets of couples that all had different connections to the group.
I'm pretty use to mixing friend groups, because of Victoria, but it still always makes me nervous!
It turned out great and everyone hit it off!

We eventually walked down to the bar that everyone else was at, but only lasted 10 minutes and two shots, because it was loud and we all wanted to get back to our conversations. I guess that's a sign of our old age. After a night of drinking and stuffing our faces with pizza after bar close we parted ways. I headed to Brennan's place with his roommates. We went to bed around 6am and if you know me you know I like my sleep! It was worth it though, because I was really bonding with Brennan's friends.

The next morning I dragged Brennan out of bed for Bloody Mary's and a vintage swap meet.
The vintage swap meet was at one of my favorite bars and had the cutest things!
I bought one of my friends pieces of artwork and bought a vintage romper
I love good finds like that!
It was the perfect way to spend one of the last weekends of summer!

Winona

I went to Winona for the weekend, which was one of my goals for August.
It was spur of the moment and I'm so glad I went.
My friends Scott, Hayley, and Reagan all got a house this year and it is so nice having them all in one place! It was almost like back in freshmen year when we all lived in the same hall, except throwing parties and drinking aren't breaking any rules, because RA's don't exist past college dorms and we are all of age.

Scott was hosting a "classy" birthday party for his friend Caleb.
It involved drinking wine, listening to records, and dressing up.
It was very different from our parties we had back in the day.
At one point Scott decided to make us all tea.
Once we emptied a few bottles the true fun began and our attempts at being classy ended.
We decided to walk to the bars at around 11pm. We took a slight detour into our old dorm building. We saw a house get busted for having a party, which at one point in time might have involved us running away as well, but we could walk past in confidence, because we aren't freshmen anymore. The bars were packed, because it was the last weekend before classes started. We managed to sneak the lone 20 year old past the bouncers, which I'm still impressed by.

At bar close we all stumbled home some of us more drunk than others.
The next morning I woke up and was pleasantly surprised with drunk Rae.
I managed to take my license and cash out of my pocket and put it back into my wallet, took my contacts out, and plugged in my phone! I have no memory of any of this, but I'm proud of myself.

After being lazy for a little while Scott, Brennan, and I hit up an antique store.
Scott then showed us some really pretty back roads of Winona and the surrounding areas.
Goodview (the town right next to Winona) was hosting a three day event called Goodview Days.
We drank beer, ate food and enjoyed the music. My favorite part was watching the firefighters compete against each other in a interesting version of tug of war. We then hiked the bluffs and I proceeded to throw up all the beer and food I had consumed 10 minutes prior. Apparently, stuffing your face and then hiking is a bad idea? The rest of our night involved dinner and just hanging out. Brennan and I left that night and made it back to Green Bay around 3am.
It was a much needed mini-getaway to one of my favorite places!

Tumblr

My tumblr mostly consists of feminist posts, political stuff,  the occasional cool medical thing I stumble upon, and other random things. It's probably one of my favorite sites. I come across a lot of thought provoking things! Here are just a few of my favorite things I have stumbled upon recently...

Positive

I've had my problems in the past with the church and certain types of people that the church seems to draw in, but that doesn't change how I feel about my faith. One of my favorite topics to discuss with people is religion, because I find that people bring so many different thoughts and ideas that I wouldn't have thought about. It helps me grow in so many ways! So with that in mind I agreed to go to my friend Andrea's church. I haven't gone to church since my senior year of high school. I mean I want to hear all about other people's beliefs why not take an hour to learn something from a pastor!

The main thing I took away from the sermon was about complimenting people or receiving compliments. A lot of the times when someone is saying something kind about you it is so easy to get bashful and brush off what they are saying. They might even stop believing you if you compliment them enough. It's because society (he said the devil, but I changed it to society) puts us down all the time. Just turn on the TV and there will be a commercial telling you that you need this or that to improve yourself. We even put ourselves down and rarely take time to raise ourselves up. We have become so accustomed to the negative comments and accepting that as the truth, instead of accepting the compliments and taking those to heart. I do believe that constructive criticism is important for growing and learning, but so often the criticism we receive is not that. So we need to start accepting the positive compliments. We also need to start lifting each other up, instead of putting each other down. Accepting compliments should become the norm!

My group of friends and I have become really good at lifting each other up. I have noticed that friend drama is almost non-existent if you speak about positive things. I even feel better personally after I tell a random stranger that I love their outfit or compliment a friend's new project. We can all benefit from this.

Flying By

My summer classes have officially ended and I ended up with A's in both of them.
I'm not sure how that happened, but I'm not complaining!
They made for a rough summer, but the lightened work load in the Fall will be worth it!

It has been two weeks since Victoria left.
I've spent everyday since she has been gone drinking.
It has been a good coping mechanism!
I would rather have her drinking next to me.

I've been spending more time with my little sister.
We are working our way through American Horror Story.
I like the show, but I'm not a fan of watching it alone.

Kaitlyn, Emily, and I have decided that once the school year starts we are changing our weekly lunches into weekly bar hoping dates. This will give us a chance to de-stress after clinical's and check out new bars. It's so nice having all of my friends be 21!

I went tubing for the first time since I vacationed in Colorado back in middle school.
I made sure to warn everyone about the brain eating amoeba's that we learned about in microbiology!
I don't want any of my friends dying from meningitis!

My month of freedom is flying by, but I have plenty more adventures planned!
I'm dreading the start of the semester, but the sooner it starts the sooner it will end!

There she goes

My best friend left for 6 months to hang out with her family in Florida and then head off to the Netherlands to study abroad. Ever since Victoria and I became roommates we have become more of a "we" or an "us", which makes this seperation really hard! The longest we have been apart in 2 years is only a couple of days. We are pretty much a couple and the idea of a six month break-up makes me wanna cry...I actually did cry, which does not happen very often.

I am going to visit her for a month at the end/beginning of the year, which will be so fun!
We will be back to Rae and Victoria is no time.
In the mean time I'm going to work on myself as an individual.
I'll probably save a lot of money as well, because satisfying late night cravings is more fun when someone goes with you.

I'm going to miss my girl so much!
I know she'll have the time of her life.
